“We do this event each year at the beginning of the colder months,” said Barb Lewis, volunteer on the Food Ministry Team.

The church, which is the only UCC church in Carnation, also hosts a Food Bank and Free Meal—take-out—event from 4 to 5:30 p.m., each Wednesday.

Those coming to that event also shop for fresh vegetables, fruit and other foods that church volunteers pick up that morning at Fred Meyers and Trader Joes, which donate food each week as part of a grocery rescue program.  Local farmers also provide fresh vegetables.

“Each week, we serve 100 to 135 to-go meals that volunteers prepare,” said Barb. “Our events are for anyone in need of a meal or food for the week. All are welcome no matter what.”

She explained that Tolt UCC, which has 158 members, started the Food Bank and Free Meal during COVID in March, 2020.

“It have been going strong each week ever since,” she added.

Anyone who attended the Food Bank and Free Meal in mid November were also invited to “shop” for warm clothing items.

The church also has an outdoor Food Pantry that people can access 24/7 and volunteers stock daily.

“We also offer a Good Neighbor Fund to help people throughout the Snoqualmie Valley in need with gas and grocery cards, rent assistance, utilities and other emergency needs,” Barb added.

In addition a few years ago, the church started the Tolt Good Neighbor Preschool, providing a caring, stimulating early childhood educational setting for three-to-five-year-old children of “all races, nationalities and creeds.”

The program features hands-on learning and multi-sensory discovery, using a variety of curricula.

It meets 9 a.m. to noon, Mondays through Thursdays.

Tolt UCC also has an Old Friends Club meeting three days a week to provide socialization activities and give respite time for caretakers of people with dementia.

“There is a lot going on at our small but mighty church, and we are so grateful for the community support as we minister to those in need,” Barb commented.
